Moonbeams before sunrise
watching moonbeams before sunrise
has become one of my favorite pastimes.
when i need to be alone or clear my mind,
i turn to the haunting beauty of the night
the days where light traces golden edges along the clouds
are nice for picnics and laughter and exploring new towns
but trying to think with so many people near
is like searching for my reflection in a frosted glass mirror
so i wait for the desolate hour when no one else is awake
when i can follow my thoughts through my mind like a maze
to see what feelings and resolutions lie at the end
and find solace dreaming with eyes wide open
the 3 am breeze flutters through the window
and the moon writes shadows across the wall
- with a perfectly delicate stroke
the way a poet pens the lines of her most inspired work
captured by the enchanting beauty of the night
i stay up, thinking of lines i'll never write
and gaze through white curtains, wispy and fine
watching the moonbeams before sunrise
